Abstract
Blue phases (BPs) possess optical stop bands in a visible range because they have a three-dimensional cubic structure with lattice periods of several 100 nm. Furthermore, since the diffracted wavelength of BPs can be shifted by external electric fields, BPs are expected to be applied for tunable photonic crystals. However, the narrow temperature range less than 1 oC of BP I has been a problem. In this study, we investigated the expansion of the temperature ranges and the temperature dependence of controllable ranges of the photonic band in BP I including a dendritic dopant. In addition, we considered in terms of elastic constants for the temperature range of BP I including the dendritic dopant.
