Abstract
We performed polarization analyses of the polymer stabilized blue phase and the isotropic-nanostructured LC composites. The chiral liquid crystal used in our study showed negative, positive and nearly zero in azimuth angle for the chiral nematic phase, the blue phase and the isotropic phase, respectively, at wavelength of light, 633 nm. The azimuth angle of the polymer stabilized blue phase and the nanostructured LC composites before and after application of an electric field changed from positive to slightly negative. It is strongly suggested that the primary cause of the residual birefringence after application of an electric field is the electric field-induced phase transition.
