Abstract
Okawa city in Fukuoka is well known as a traditional district of production of furniture. However in the last decade it's production has been decreasing strongly because of the change of Japanese consumers' life style. In 2004 Okawa city started "Japan Brand" project to promote it's furniture industry for the purpose of entering into European Markets. This paper is about students proposals for design strategies related to this "Japan Brand" project within the framework of a seminar. The students tried to clarify the problems by researching the present situation of furniture industry, interviewing with people concerned and then analyzed them. By the end of the winter semester 2004 they have developed 10 different ideas for example about organization, logo design and city activating plan.
