Abstract

A 63-year-old Japanese female found an abnormality in her right breast. The tumor gradually increased in size; therefore, surgery was performed, given the possibility of breast cancer. An examination of the dissected tissue showed that the lesion was composed of dense fibrous connective tissue with atrophic ducts and lobules exhibiting perivascular lymphocytic infiltration indicative of diabetic mastopathy. Diabetic mas- topathy is usually associated with long-standing insulin treatment and other diabetic complications, especially in young females. However, these characteristics were not observed in the present case. We herein report this unique case with a discussion of similar cases in Japan.
