Abstract

We report a case of granulocytic sarcoma of the upper eyelid. A 68-year-old female presented to Kyushu University Ophthalmology Clinic with swelling of her right upper eyelid that was diagnosed as papillomatous tumor of the right upper palpebral conjunctiva. The patient had a past history of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) that had been diagnosed 6 years previously. An incisional biopsy revealed that the tumor was composed of diffuse atypical cells that peroxidase staining showed to be granulocytic in origin. Bone marrow aspiration and hematological testing indicated complete remission of AML. Although radiation was effective in treating the ocular tumor, the patient had a relapse of AML 13 months later.
