Abstract

The two conceptually different methods to study the pairing correlations, the RPA and the number projection, are compared by performing realistic calculations for normal and superdeformed rotational bands. Both approaches are found to give similar results concerning the role pairing fluctuations have on the rotational motion, although the RPA takes more correlations into account.
