Abstract

A new heterometallic diruthenium(III)magnesium(II) complex functionalized with four pyrenecarboxylate fluorophores 1 has been synthesized and structurally characterized. Fluorescence from the pyrene moieties in 1 was nearly completely quenched in CH2 Cl2 (>98%), but turn-on fluorescence was successfully observed after regioselective substitution of the carboxylates bridging the heterometallic Ru(III)..Mg(II) sites.
