Abstract

ABSTRACT We have developed materials from the system ZrCVItCb, with which an ionic conductor, a mixedconducting composite, and an electronic conductor can be tailored only by varying the ratio of ZrU2 and In2O3. Phase equilibria, phase transformation, ionic and electronic conductivities, defect chemistry, chemical compatibility, thick film processing, and electrochemical properties are investigated. It is demonstrated that a cell with a cathode/electrolyte structure using ZrOi-IniCb exhibits satisfactory electrochemical performance, and that a functionally gradient electrode/electrolyte structure can be constructed to improve electrochemical properties.
