Abstract
A robust method to identify individual spawning Japanese charr Salvelinus leucomaenis japonicus using visible implant elastomer (VIE) and commercial binoculars was developed. Successful individual identification was c. 80% for 1693 observation trials, and successful pair recognition was c. 70% for 337 pairs of spawning fish.
