Abstract
Extraction of transition metals (Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni 2+ and Co2+) by calix[n]arene carboxyl derivatives and their monomer analog dissolved in toluene was performed in the temperature range of 283 to 323K. Thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy and entropy changes (ΔH and ΔS) were obtained, and the cation exchange extracting properties of the cyclic ligand calixarenes were discussed in comparison with that of the non-cyclic monomer analog from a thermodynamic point of view. The enthalpy-entropy compensation effect on the complexation of metal ions with ligands was also discussed. It was found that calixarenes favorable promote complexation compared to the monomer analog.
