Abstract

The accuracy can be estimated by the size of the greatest set of candidates obtained for all the possible failures in the system to be diagnosed, but the search is very exhaustive. A method is proposed to estimate the accuracy of the diagnostic result by the size of the envelope set of candidates, which is defined as the set which is assured to contain the greatest set of candidates. This will assure that the fault diagnosis system being diagnosed satisfies the required accuracy, and will promote the application of the fault diagnosis system to practical plants.
