Abstract

1. 1. Relationship between rate of tissue respiration in vitro (Qo2) and body mass (W) was volumetrically examined at 20°C in 22 tissues of a marine teleost, porgy Pagrus major ranging from 0.074 to 990 g. 2. 2. Respiration rate (Qo2) decreased with increasing body mass, in most tissues with less steep slope than the decline in mass-specific metabolic rate of intact porgy. 3. 3. The value of Qo2 (μl/g/min) at W of 100 g ranged from 21.9 in the pseudobranchs to 0.26 in the white muscle.
