Abstract

The experimental prcx:edure of freeze-etch X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been proposed as a surface analytical method of the hydrated polymer. The enrichment of the component with the larger surface free energy at the surface in a hydrated-state has been confirmed for polystyrene(PS)-poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) blend and segmented polyurethanes. In the case of PS/PEO, an irreversible surface reorganization upon immersion in water has been observed.
