Abstract
THE FLOW AT THE OUTLET OF A CENTRIFUGAL IMPELLER IS NOT UNIFORM BETWEEN BLADES EVEN IN THE CASE OF POTENTIAL FLOW.REAL FLOW IS MORE ASYMMETRIC THAN A POTENTIAL FLOW, BECAUSE THE EFFICIENCY VARIES BETWEEN BLADES.SUCH ASYMMETRIC FLOW BECOMES UNIFORM IN THE VANELESS DIFFUSER, AND THE PROCESS OF DECAY OF ASYMMETRY IS EXAMINED WITH REAL FLOW AS WELL AS POTENTIAL FLOW.THE CIRCUMFERENTIAL VARIATION OF STATIC PRESSURE AND TOTAL PRESSURE IS MEASURED AT MANY RADII IN THE VANELESS DIFFUSER, AND BY CORRELATING THE CHANGE OF TOTAL PRESSURE ALONG THE STREAMLINE WITH THE CIRCUMFERENTIAL VARIATION OF STATIC PRESSURE, IT BECOMES CLEAR THAT THE REVERSIBLE WORK EXCHANGE BETWEEN STREAMLINES IS THE MAIN FACTOR TO UNIFORMALIZE THE ASYMMETRIC FLOW.
