Autocorrelator consisting of a solar-blind photomultiplier for use in the near-ultraviolet region

Abstract

The development of an autocorrelator based on a two-photon absorption of a photomultiplier photocathode is described. A solar-blind photomultiplier, sensitive in the far-ultraviolet region, is used to detect a two-photon absorption in the near-ultraviolet region. Such an autocorrelator can be used to measure the pulsewidth of a laser (396 nm, 110 fs) produced by the second harmonic generation of a Ti:sapphire laser.
