Abstract
A novel receiver configuration enabling automatic dispersion equalization is proposed. An equalizer is configured with variable-dispersion, and it is shown that the optimum dispersion can be detected by monitoring the clock component of the transmitted signal after square law detection. Using this equalizer, a 40-Gbit/s transmission experiment over 200 km of DSF was successfully carried out.
