Calibration of the effective analyzing power for a 3 He polarimeter at 443 MeV

Abstract

The effective analyzing power for a 3 He polarimeter was calibrated at E 3He = 443 MeV. For the calibration, the absolute magnitude of the polarization was determined by means of the double scattering method using the 3 He scattering on 12 C at 7° in the laboratory frame. The effective analyzing power of A y eff = 0.232±0.010 -0.015 +0.017 was obtained for the polarimeter with a plastic scintillator of 16 mm thickness as analyzer. The energy dependence of A y eff was measured. The first data of the induced polarization for 3 He+ 12 C elastic scattering at E 3He = 443 MeV will be presented.
