Abstract

We reviewed 129 patients with atopic dermatitis during the foregoing 43 months. Cataract was detected in 87 eyes of 48 patients, comprising 33 males and 15 females. The age averaged 23.3±6.5 years. Visual acuity was intact in 15 eyes. The cataract was located posterior subcapsular 41 eyes, anterior subcapsular 22 eyes, anterior posterior subcapsular 10 eyes and mature 8 eyes. Retinal detachment was present in 27 eyes and anterior chamber opacity in 15 eyes. Visual acuity tended to be more affected in posterior subcapsular opacity, anterior subcapsular opacity and mature cataract in the ascending order. Cataract was more frequent in cases with severe facial involvement.
