Change of the critical temperature of high-Tc single (2223) phase Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductors by intercalation process

Abstract

Superconductors having a high critical temperature (Tc = 110 K), (2223) phase Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O, were obtained by a simple gradual calcination of the homogeneous mixtures of the element oxides from 845 to 860 °C in air. It was found that cis-1,2-dicyano-1,2-bis (2,4,5-trimethyl-3-thienyl) ethene was intercalated into the Bi-O interlayers of the obtained superconductors, leading to an expansion of the interlayer dimension and a sharp decrease in Tc (from 110 to 85 K), whereas the (2223) phase structure was stable. This means that the Tc can be controlled from 110 to 85 K as a function of intercalation level without damaging the superconductor structure.
