Abstract
The demand for heavy oil decreased recently due to their invaluable use as heavy feedstock while the need in light and middle distillate has moved to the opposite direction. In the present study, characteristics over HDM of 3-kinds of AR were investigated in the staged reaction system. To minimize the H2 consumption, the various support catalysts such as alumina and silica-alumina were screened in the first stage. The commercial HDM catalyst was tested in the second stage, after selection of better support in the first stage. Higher HDM reactivity was suggested by silica-alumina, comparing to alumina supports in the first stage. Among the silica-alumina, SIRA30 support showed the highest HDM reactivity, which could be attributed to stronger acidic sites and larger pore characteristics. The complete HDM reactivity was achieved in SIRA 30-DMC5Q of staged reaction system, which could be recommended as a promising catalytic system for the effective HDM.
