Abstract
Photoelectron spectroscopy and DFT calculation revealed that the antiferromagnetic spin coupling of the Cr-Cr pair in Cr2- (S=1/2) is changed to be ferromagnetic by the oxidation of Cr2- into Cr2O- (S=9/2). The ferromagnetic coupling was induced, as the major case, due to the hybridization of Cr 3d with 0 2p orbitals and, as the minor cause, by the direct Cr-Cr exchange in interaction with the interatomic distance elongated by the oxidation.
