Abstract
Longwall mining systems are very capital intensive, requires large initial investments. It has numerous conveyors, the shearer, and the hydraulic roof supports are all interdependent. If one component goes down, the entire system is offline. With such a high capital investment, downtime causes serious financial losses. Therefore, the classification and forecasting of chock shields performance in real time is imperative for minimizing financial losses and improving productivity. Authors successfully developed the wireless real time system and commissioned in one of the longwall mines. It has many unique features over the conventional systems. It classified chock shields behaviour in real-time and forecasted in graphical form for better conclusions to improving productivity. Therefore, this article emphasizes the role of chock shields behaviour classification in successful longwall operations.
