Consideration on the structural response under sloshing loads

Abstract

The estimation of sloshing pressure loads has been investigated by many researchers. Recently, with the appearance of double hull tankers, the problem of sloshing pressure loads on double hull structures have become a matter of consideration. In these circumstances, the authors performed the sloshing experiments on four types of cargo oil tank structures including double hulled structure. From these experiments, the differences of sloshing pressure loads in structures are clarified. Then, in order to estimate the actual structural response under the sloshing loads, numerical transient analyses are performed. In this analyses, two types of scaling laws are introduced. One is incompressible pressure scaling law (Froude's law) and another is compressible pressure scaling law. From the results of the numerical analyses, the authors could obtain some suggestive knowledge of the structural response under the sloshing loads.
