Abstract

This study presents a design procedure for a new robust nonlinear control algorithm based on the theory of the terminal sliding mode (TSM) to control the attitude of a satellite system. Since the traditional TSM controllers include a discontinuous function, a significant problem called chattering can occur. In this paper, a methodology for designing a new switching function is discussed to alleviate this drawback over time. Besides, to highlight the robustness of the proposed method against uncertainties, a satellite with three pairs of thrusters subject to parameter variation is simulated.
