Abstract

Under the current circumstances that consumer-electronics manufacture approach to environmental issues increasingly, the role of designer is very important. Designers are involved in many processes from production to disposal. This work set out to investigate how in-house designers participate in ecological product developments today. We conducted a questionnaire survey to intra-firm designing departments.
The result shows the design department is aware that design development is the most important point to approach as before. Because commercialization of product is difficult without a synergistic effect on cost reduce, sales appeal or novelty of a design. And we think the design departments should consult on following eco-design areas from here on.
①Development of materials and processing methods for exterior②Long life design③Proposal of eco functions or mechanisms and new services④The design that arouse eco in users or work on users’ ecological operation when used.
