Abstract
Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was applied to an Al-6061 metal matrix composite reinforced with alumina particles. Although pressing is generally difficult with this composite, it is shown that the use of a solid solution treatment prior to pressing provides an opportunity to perform the pressing at room temperature for up to a total of five passes through the die. Samples were pressed and the mechanical properties examined in the as-pressed condition. These results are described including the effect of a post-ECAP peak-ageing treatment.
