This paper presents a design methodology and verification of a 2/5GHz dual band digitally-controlled oscillator (DCO). The DCO employed two spiral inductors and a switching transistor controlled by a digital signal is connected between them to operate at two bands, respectively shifting from a frequency to another. The proposed circuit is implemented in 0.18um CMOS technology and tested. The measured phase noise was -120.5dBc/Hz and -113.9dBc/Hz (both @ 1MHz offset) at carrier frequency of 2.7GHz and 4.1GHz, respectively.
