abstract = "A stochastic typhoon model was developed on the basis of 347 typhoon data for 50 years from 1951 to 2000 for the area of 25°-40°N and 120°-150°E. A multivariate AR model was applied for typhoon parameters as a function of typhoon location and time, where the seasonal changes of typhoon characteristics were properly taken into account by changing the parameters depending on the season. The reproducibility of the typhoon characteristics in each season by the model was improved as compared with the existing typhoon models. The comparison between the simulated data and the actual data leads to the conclusion that the proposed stochastic typhoon model can be applied for the performance design of coastal structures in considering the occurrence probability of extreme natural external forces.",
