Abstract

The dynamical characteristics of the vitrification process for a binary soft-sphere system are studied by means of an extensive molecular dynamics simulation. Using a Cole-Cole plot of the susceptibility, evidence is given for the first time of a fast process, which can be identified over a certain temperature range. Comparing with an ideal three-mode model in three dimensions, it is concluded that the fast process and the boson peak are related to the trapped motion.
