Abstract

Cu and Ni were electrodeposited into polycarbonate track-etch membrane filters to fabricate nanowire and nanotube arrays. The current efficiency (η) of Cu electrodeposition was measured at two potentials by analyzing the weight of samples by inductivelycoupled plasma emission spectrometry. The measured η showed a tight distribution with a standard deviation of 4% around the mean close to 100%. The η of Ni electrodeposition was measured in the same way. It ranged from 25% to 100%. The smaller η is associated with the formation of Ni nanotubes, but, the tube wall thickness does not always follow the order of the η. copyright The Electrochemical Society.
