Effect of Strong Solar Flare Events on the Geomagnetic Equatorial Region During Solar Cycle-24

Abstract

This study presents statistic of selected strong solar flare events from 2008 to 2019 that shown effect on the geomagnetic data and solar radio burst related to the events. Our analysis characterizes the solar flare using GOES satellite data and study its effect using an extensive ground-based geomagnetic data collected from stations located at geomagnetic equatorial region for the full year of solar cycle 24. This paper identifies the types of solar radio bursts using e-CALLISTO data for the unusual event of solar flare effect where negative crochets was detected at all equatorial stations. Our analysis reported that there was no unusual solar flare effect is observed in this solar cycle-24 other than those caused by solar flare event that happened on 9 August 2011. The type of solar radio burst related to this unusual solar flare effect is identified as solar radio burst type II.
