Effect of structural isomerism of poly (alkyl N-acyldehydroalanine) on their thermosensitive behavior

Abstract

Poly(alkyl N-acyldehydroalanine)s that have geminal substituent at α-position were synthesized. We studied the effect of various alkyl groups of the polymers on their phase transition behaviors. When the total carbon number of the both alkyl groups of the polymers (C) was three, their cloud points were higher than the polymers with C = 4. The cloud points of the polymer with iPr at R1 or R2 were higher than those with nPr at R1 or R2. In the combination of two polymers 1 / 3, 2 / 5, and 6 / 7, R1 and R2 were replased with each other. The cloud points of the polymer with large alkyl groups at R2 were higher than those with smaller ones.
