A simplified method for predicting laminar gravity controlled condensation characteristics of ternary mixture is developed on the basis of two-phase boundary layer theory and is applied to the condensation of non-azeotropic mixture containing a small amount of air (air-R 12-R 114). The effects of air upon condensation rate, heat flux and thermodynamic states at the vapour-liquid interface are evaluated over a wide range of mass fraction of each component. Experiment of condensation on a horizontal tube was performed at constant bulk vapour temperature varying bulk mass fraction of components and surface temperature of the test tube. The experimental result on heat transfer agrees well with the present theoretical ones within ±20 %.
