    Abstract

The mechanical properties of the base plate and toughness of the weld joint were studied. For Nb free steels, the tensile strength and lower yield point was lower for decreasing C content. For Nb steels, LYP increased and TS was lowered slightly for decreasing C content. The fracture appearance transition temperature of 0. 01%C-0. 03%Nb steel was minus 150 degree C when normalized and minus 130 degree C when quenched and tempered. Toughness was improved by decreasing the C content. Nb had no effect.
