Electron-rich diplatinum(0) metallocryptate promoting novel successive encapsulation of acidic hydrides

The electron-rich diplatinum (0) and dipaladium (0) complexes were synthesized to establish an 18-valence-electron configuration. The encapsulation of acidic hydrides into the cage was readily promoted, leading to the mono- and dihydride complexes. The detailed structural examination revealed the steric communication mechanism between the long-separated Pt centers. A similar mechanism was presumed to be evident in the two irreversible, suggesting that the electrochemical behavior can be switched by the stepwise hydride masking.
