Electrostatic perturbations in partially ionized plasma with the effects of ionization and recombination

    Abstract

    The behavior of the electrostatic ion acoustic mode in a partially ionized plasma in presence of collisions was discussed. The application of the model to space plasmas which were usually subjected to gravity was analyzed. It was found that a dispersion equation which includes the effects of ionization and recombination was also derived. Analysis shows the existence of a mechanism of excitation of ion sound waves in much higher layers where neutral were present specifically just before the transition region.
