Abstract

NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratones, NTT Corporation To reduce the power consumption for aggregation in optical access network, energy efficient wide-area photonic aggregation usmg λ-tunable WDM/TDM-PON is proposed. With this approach, the aggregation function and the redundancy function of layer-2 switches in the conventional access networks are moved into the photonic aggregator in the PON area. In this paper, we derived the most effective photonic aggregator configuration to reduce the power consumption, and clanfied the potential of power saving with the wide-area photonic aggregation.
