Abstract

Polyvinyl chloride pitch was blended with coal-tar-based mesophase pitch with the aim of improving the stabilization reactivity of the pitch fibres. They were found to be highly compatible and reduced the oxidative stabilization time for the fibres to maintain their form during carbonization at over 600 degrees C from 120 to 80 min.
