Abstract

A new method based on a Bayesian approach was proposed for estimating directional spectra. Reliability of the method was examined through numerical simulation, and the following conclusions were derived: 1) The proposed method is applicable to data analyses for mixed instrument array measurement with more than three components. 2) It provides higher directional resolution than other existing methods. 3) It is particularly powerful in estimating directional spectrum from cross-power spectra contaminated by errors. 4) The formulation of directional spectrum estimation can be improved with increasing knowledge on directional seas.
