Abstract

Eye-Gaze device can provide a hands free interface to user computer dialogues. It would accelerate a barrier free design for handy capped who uses a computer. This paper describes usability of eye gaze interface by an experimental method. Test is preliminary for interface design and includes, e1: Comparison between mouse operation and eye gaze operation. e2: Eye gaze input characteristics by layout differences of numerical keys. e3: Eye gaze input characteristics by directions of eye movement. We could discuss about those, 1) User's load is increased in eye gaze interface both of selection and clicking operations. 2) GUI layout is not affect in input speed. 3) Selection error is tend to increase in a button layout of linear compared with circular layout. 4) Hue and brightness of color and cross cursor should be consider for designing user interfaces.
