Abstract

The measurement of evaporation residue (ER) cross sections in the 16O + 238U reaction for the energy range from above- to extreme sub-carrier was discussed. A statistical model calculation, for which partial cross sections are calculated by a coupled-channel model taking into account the prolate deformation of 238U, was used to reproduce the cross sections. An aerosol-loaded He-gas-jet system to was employed to transport ERs and their α decays were detected to determine the production rates. Complete fusion in the collision of the projectile with the tips of the 238U target was observed.
