Abstract

We experienced expandable metallic stents (EMS) placement for the patients with malignant colonic obstruction. 8 patients; 6 rectal cancers and 2 peritoneal disseminations caused by gastric cancer were inoperable cases. The stents were successfully placed and resolved the obstruction in all patients. Dislocation of the EMS occurred in one case probably due to decrease in size of the tumor. In these patients colostomy could be avoided and their QOL were maintained. EMS placement is useful method for the patients with malignant colonic obstruction as palliative treatment.
