N2 - In our facility, transperineal prostate biopsy is conducted employing an ultrasonic guide, which incorporates originally improved biopsy template and probe-fastening stand. During the period April 1998 to March 2000, 159 biopsies (149 cases) were performed utilizing this equipment. Moreover, 65 cases of prostatic cancer were diagnosed (rate of positive response, 40.9%). With respect to complications associated with the biopsy, the incidence of hematuria was low; furthermore, episodes of bleeding necessitating special treatment or fever were not observed. Fine adjustment of a portion of the biopsy procedure is possible with this equipment. In additionally, clear images afforded by ultrasound can be used as a guide. Therefore, this equipment is suitable for use when performing prostate biopsy, offering both reliability and safety.
