Experimental study of ultra-fast heat conduction process in metals using femtosecond laser thermal reflection method

Abstract

Femtosecond laser thermal reflection method has become an important experimental tool for studying the transient heat conduction in metals. We measured several Au films with different thicknesses using Front heating-Rear detecting method and obtained the propagation speed of electron temperature oscillation. The measured value agrees with the theoretical prediction of two-temperature model. The deep research into transient heat conduction process in metals is necessary for thermal design of microelectronic devices and development of femtosecond laser machining.
