Abstract
A study on the mixing of air and the secondary gas is conducted experimentally in order to develop the design of SCRAM-jet engine. Two methods of injection are compared. In the present study, sonic Helium gas is injected into supersonic air flow of M∞ = 3.76. Flow visualization (Schlieren photographs and oil flow technique) and volume fraction measurements are conducted in the experiments. From the volume fraction measurements, it is turned out that the injection from the upper face of the ramp injector is superior in the supersonic mixing to the injection from the rear face of the ramp injector.
