Abstract

Small-scale gravity flows of glass beads, clay, salt solution, and other materials travelling down submerged sloping floors have been investigated by use of the methods of flow visualization in water tanks. Three types of gravity flows have been observed: round head type, flat front type, and internal-wave type. Behaviors and structures of these flows are demonstrated with photographs of flow patterns.
