Abstract

Background: It is not known whether LPS is required for the activation of coagulation factor B. Results: Factor B is an LPS-binding zymogen activated by -factor C in an LPS-dependent manner. Conclusion: The clip domain of factor B has an important role in localizing factor B to LPS. Significance: Horseshoe crab coagulation is an ideal model for understanding proteolytic cascades.
