Abstract
A fast method for analyzing optical waveguides with the use of an improved Fourier series method and an absorbing boundary condition of perfectly matched layer (PML) is proposed. The numerical examples show that the computing cost, calculated accuracy, and convergent speed with the PML condition have been saliently improved, as compared to without the PML condition. The validity of the proposed method have been confirmed via comparison with other methods and measurements. The proposed method can be easily extended to 3D problems.
