Abstract

Rotating bending fatigue tests were carried out for Inconel 718 at room temperature and elevated temperatures of 300 °C, 500 °C and 600 °C to investigate the influence of temperature on the fatigue crack growth resistance. The crack growth rate can be expressed by the small crack growth law, dl/dN = C1σanl = C2aB)nl, at all the temperatures, where σB, σa and l are the tensile strength, the stress amplitude and the crack length, and C1, C2 and n are constants. Therefore, the resistance to crack growth was evaluated using the small crack growth law. The fatigue crack growth resistance decreased with the increase of temperature.
