Femtosecond spectroscopy of phase II vanadyl phthalocyanine thin films

Abstract

The dynamics of excited electronic states in vanadyl phthalocyanine thin films of phase II stacking arrangement were studied by femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopy. Decay kinetics of bleaching observed at the lowest-energy absorption peak consisted of three components; an exciton-exciton annihilation component, an exciton-phonon coupling component, and a long-lived component which is presumably due to triplet states. The exciton-exciton annihilation rate was found to have t-1/2 time dependence. Both doping in polymer and tertiary-butyl peripheral substitution resulted in only a slight change in the exciton decay kinetics.
